"The Mother Road never goes out of style" feels mo "The Mother Road never goes out of style" feels more true than ever right now.

We spent three months traveling Route 66 from the Chicago area all the way to Los Angeles because 2026 marks the road's 100th anniversary.

Along the way, we expected plenty of vintage signs, quirky roadside attractions, and nostalgic diners. What we didn't expect was how much energy and excitement communities are putting into preserving the road's future. Many towns have received grants and funding tied to the Route 66 Centennial, leading to restored landmarks, fresh paint, new museums, renovated neon signs, and entirely new attractions celebrating the road's history. Everywhere we went, it felt like people were investing in keeping Route 66 alive for the next generation of travelers. Driving under Albuquerque's neon Route 66 arch felt like the perfect reminder that this isn't just a historic highway, it's a living piece of American culture that continues to evolve while honoring its past.

After three months on the Mother Road, we've officially become Route 66 evangelists. If you've ever thought about taking the trip, consider this your sign. Start planning it now.

If you're interested in science, military history, If you're interested in science, military history, or the story of the Atomic Age, put the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History on your New Mexico itinerary.

We originally planned to visit while exploring Los Alamos last year but ran out of time, so we made sure not to miss it this trip. While it covers the Manhattan Project and the development of nuclear weapons, the museum also dives into nuclear energy, medicine, space exploration, and the science behind it all. There is far more to see here than we expected, and you could easily spend several hours exploring the exhibits.

So, you want to live in an RV... but how do you ac So, you want to live in an RV... but how do you actually make money?

This is probably the biggest question people ask us, and the answer is simpler than most people expect: The same ways you make money without an RV.

Living on the road doesn't automatically mean you're retired, independently wealthy, or a travel influencer. We've met full-time RVers from all kinds of careers, and there are far more options than people realize.

Here are some of the most common ways people we've met earn a living while traveling:

-Remote Jobs: Especially since the pandemic, there are more remote jobs available than ever before
-Seasonal Jobs: Many RVers spend a few months working at places like national parks, campgrounds, ski resorts, farms, etc.
-Working in Town: Some people stay in one area for weeks or months and get jobs at local businesses, restaurants, stores, hospitals, or other employers before continuing their travels
-Camp Hosting & Work Camping: Some campgrounds and public lands offer free campsites, hourly pay, or both in exchange for helping around the campground

As for us, our main source of income is Josh's full-time remote job as the Advancement Director for a nonprofit organization. Having a stable remote job has made full-time RV life possible while giving us the flexibility to explore the country. Everything we create here, our travel guides, campground reviews, videos, and social media, is something we genuinely enjoy, but it only makes a couple hundred bucks.

We're Jen & Josh, and we've been living full-time in our RV for 3 years. We share honest RV life, campground reviews, travel guides, and adventures from thousands of miles on the road to help you decide if this lifestyle is right for you.

This is Part 4 of our "So You Want to Live in an RV" series... at least for now! If you keep asking great questions, we'll keep making new parts.
