If you’re passing through Alabama or planning a NASCAR-themed road trip, do not skip the Talladega Superspeedway track tour. We spent an afternoon exploring this iconic raceway, and it totally exceeded our expectations. From climbing to the top of the Tower Extension (the views are unreal!) to standing in Victory Lane pretending we just won the big race, it was a blast from start to finish.
In this post, we’re sharing a little background on the speedway itself, what to expect on the tour, how to book your tickets, and our honest review of the experience. Spoiler alert: it’s absolutely worth it- whether you’re a hardcore racing fan or just curious about one of the most legendary tracks in motorsports history.
About the Iconic Talladega Superspeedway
If you’ve ever dreamed of standing where NASCAR legends have raced, celebrated, and burned some serious rubber, then a Talladega Superspeedway tour needs to be on your bucket list. Located in the heart of Alabama, this track isn’t just big- it’s massive. At 2.66 miles, it’s the longest oval in NASCAR and home to some of the sport’s most unforgettable moments.
Talladega is known for its high speeds, wild finishes, and electric energy during race weekends, but you don’t have to wait for race day to soak it all in. The Talladega track tour gives fans and curious travelers alike a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most legendary speedways in the world.

From jaw-dropping views at the Tower Extension (trust me, it’s tall), to stepping into Victory Lane where champions celebrate, you’ll feel like you’re part of racing history. One of the highlights is exploring the Talladega Garage Experience, an immersive area where you get up close with the action, even when engines aren’t running. And the absolutely coolest part is taking a lap around the track in the shuttle bus.

Our Tour of Talladega Speedway
The first, and most frustrating, part of our tour was buying our tickets online. Track tour tickets are sold through the same tickets as race tickets, and boy was Ticketmaster being finicky! We managed to get our tickets, though, and the day of we checked in at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame Museum- which is right next door to the track. There, we met our tour guide and fellow tour-takers. We were there on a weekday afternoon in the off-season, so it was just us and a pair of friends. It ended up being a fun group, though, and we enjoyed our guide and the other tourers!
We all hopped on the shuttle bus and our guide drove us over to the track. Our first stop was the Tower Extension. To get to the elevator, we actually drove through the empty stadium- like past the concession stands and everything. It was kind of wild. Then we took the elevator up to the Tower Extension for a great view of the whole track. Seeing the track from above, and seeing it empty, really put the scale into perspective. It felt like you could barely even see the back part of the track.

Our guide told us all about the different buildings and lots we could see, and some stories about the track. Then we took the elevator back down, got back on the shuttle, and drove through one of the tunnels to the infield. We got to see some of the camping areas and other stuff here before stopping at the Garage Experience.
The Garage Experience building wasn’t quite as exciting as it would be during race weekend. Besides having food, drinks, and places to hang out- during races you can come here to see the cars being worked on in the garages. When we visited, though, it was empty. Our guide had lots of stories here, too, and we got to see one of the actual filming cars from the Talladega Nights movie.

Next up, we walked over to Victory Lane for a photo op. Shake and bake!

We had lots of time to take photos along our tour which was really nice. Since it’s a small group, we were able to pause and really take our time if we wanted.
The last part of the tour was definitely the highlight. We loaded into the shuttle and went for a spin around the track! We drove on the inner lane, but it was still an incredible experience- this absolutely needs to go on your bucket list. I’m not even a race fan (Josh is), but it was still amazing to experience such an important cultural touchstone. Seeing the turns up close was surreal. When you’re driving right next to them they’re almost totally vertical. These photos were taken straight out of the window!

Our tour ended back at the Hall of Fame where we got back in our cars and headed home. Josh still dreams of visiting for an actual race week, but I actually think seeing everything so empty was even cooler!
