We kicked off the new year with a different kind o We kicked off the new year with a different kind of trip—one without the RV! We flew out to Oregon (with Josh's dad in tow too) to visit my dad in Lincoln City. We spent a week exploring the Oregon Coast and saw so many cool things. Well, we finally earned our Full-Time RVer Merit B Well, we finally earned our Full-Time RVer Merit Badge in "Emergency Campground Relocation." Sunday we finally hit the road again after some time home for the holidays and other family stuff. We had a smooth drive to our Harvest Hosts site south of Springfield. Monday we packed up early for a few more hours of driving to our state park in Missouri. This was our first time doing a drive day on a work day and it was definitely a mistake. We made it to our campground, Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park fine and it looked like a really nice park. We started getting set up and then realized there was absolutely no cell service. No T-Mobile and no Verizon- the two carriers we have home internet set ups from. Usually we've been able to find good information before hand and haven't run into the problem yet. The best we could get was a whisper of WiFi if we stood just right next to the (closed) camp store. It was definitely not sustainable for two weeks of working- oh, and Josh had a board meeting Monday night in four hours. So while I frantically researched alternative campgrounds, Josh had to jump on a work call, which I’m pretty sure was powered by sheer will and maybe a rogue WiFi signal bouncing off a tree. Finally, we found another state park an hour away that claimed to have WiFi in the campground. Good enough! We threw everything back in the camper, loaded up the animals (who were not amused), and took off. And luckily, it was a success! Not only is there WiFi in the whole campground, but we were the only ones there so we could pick a site right next to one of the WiFi poles. So yeah, we had to relocate mid-stay for the first time ever, which somehow makes us feel even more legit as full-time RVers. And we've learned to test cell service before unhitching and not to travel before a work day.
