We’re run a lot of public nature programs over the year and one thing we always suggest for people who want to learn more is to get a few pocket guides. These small foldable guides are perfect for taking on walks with you and include some of the most common species you might encounter. They’re also laminated, which keeps them safe in bad weather and from getting torn in your pocket or bag. A classic started is the trees guide, but kids might also like Animal Tracks or Bugs & Slugs.

When you’re buying gifts for RVers, don’t forget the furry ones! Our cat Betsey travels full-time with us and was RVing on weekends for a few years before that. We’ve put together this list with her favorites in mind, as well as some ideas for RV dogs too!

Our cat Betsey’s absolute favorite thing in our RV is her window perch. We have hers suctioned to the window over the couch and she spends a lot of her time curled up in it. I’m always a little nervous trusting suction cups, but we’ve used this for almost a year now and haven’t had any issues.

Let’s face it, pets are messy. One way to keep your RV pet’s eating area clean is with a silicone mat. We use this Reopet one for Betsey’s feeding area and especially now that we have carpet it’s a lifesaver. For full-time RVers or long-hault travellers, a good vacuum is important for keeping the rig clean. When we went full-time we did a lot of research into finding a small, lightweight vacuum that was strong enough to keep up with everyday life (and cat), but wouldn’t break the bank. We ended up with the Hoover ONEPWR WindTunnel and it’s been great so far. It easily picks up big stuff like spilled cat food, stores easily in our small hall closet, and is easy to clean and maintain.
