    May 3, 2024 - By Jen

One of the things we see most commonly asked about full-time RV life is how much does it cost. Maybe it’s because we’ve both spent the majority of our careers working in government where our salaries were public information, but we don’t feel as taboo talking about money as a…

When Josh left his previous job and we had to move out of our park ranger house, we had 60 days to go from a 2 story, 2 bedroom house with garage to a 30 foot travel trailer. Which meant a LOT of downsizing for starting RV life. We had…

First stop: Cadillac Ranch, one of the most iconic Route 66 spots. And yes, we had to grab some spray paint and leave our mark.

Then we checked out the Giant Legs of Amarillo (complete with a whole fictional backstory).

Made a quick stop at Combine City before heading to Slug Bug Ranch, this one was actually moved recently when the original property sold. Bonus: it’s a more accessible spot if you still want that classic “spray paint a car” experience.

Amarillo might be known for a lot of things, but the roadside art scene is seriously underrated.

Before this was a Route 66 stop, it was a full-on Before this was a Route 66 stop, it was a full-on mining boomtown.

The Galena Mining & Historical Museum tells the story of this tiny town tucked into the corner of Kansas, built on galena, a lead ore that once drove everything here.
We showed up just in time to catch a docent giving a quick overview, then wandered the exhibits on our own. And honestly, it has a little bit of everything: minerals, cars, local art, old cameras, clothes, toys, appliances…you name it.

It’s one of those small-town museums that ends up being way more interesting than you expect.

Trying a new way to fill our RV water We don’t a Trying a new way to fill our RV water

We don’t always have hookups, and moving the whole trailer just to refill isn’t ideal, so we tested out an Everbilt drill pump to transfer water instead.

It wasn’t the fastest option, but it worked! We'll keep this in our back pocket for off-grid days.

Link for the drill pump kit is in my bio!

We saw this Forest River @impressionbyforestriver 36BR3 at the Chicago RV Show, and just look at this setup.

Two twin beds, and each one has its own little nook, with a TV, storage, and actual personal space.

If you’re traveling with kids, this is such a fun and functional layout. Not your average RV bunk room at all.

Baxter Springs became Kansas’s first cowtown after the Civil War when longhorn cattle were driven through, but its history goes back even further. The Osage Nation believed the area’s springs had healing properties long before settlers arrived.
It was also the site of the Baxter Springs Massacre, where around 100 U.S. soldiers were killed during the Civil War.

We learned all of this and so much more at the Baxter Springs Heritage Museum during our Route 66 trip, and it’s free to visit (open Tuesday–Sunday), which makes it an easy stop to add.
