Norman Rockwell told John Risdon he should try pai Norman Rockwell told John Risdon he should try painting. Risdon’s response? “Everybody paints.” 😂

So instead, he carved fungi with a penknife. These three carved shelf fungi, made in 1951 and 1954, are on display in the Folk Art Gallery at the Bennington Museum in Vermont.

Honestly, I think “everybody paints” might be one of the best reasons to choose a completely different art form.

The first corn maze of the season just hits differ The first corn maze of the season just hits differently. Maybe it’s wandering through the corn with the leaves starting to change, maybe it’s the crisp fall air, or maybe I’m just ridiculously excited that my favorite season is finally here.

Either way, consider this my official declaration that fall has arrived. I will happily spend the next few months looking for corn mazes, fall colors, pumpkins, apple cider, and all the spooky things.

📍Applecrest Farm Orchards, Hampton Falls, NH

I’ve visited a lot of supposedly haunted places ov I’ve visited a lot of supposedly haunted places over the years, but these are seven I’d absolutely go back to.

📍Fort Mifflin, Philadelphia, PA: The fort saw death during the Revolutionary War and later served as a Civil War prison, so there are plenty of stories from both eras.

📍Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, Petros, TN: This former prison is often called one of the most haunted prisons in America. It was known as the “End of the Line” and “Hell on Earth” because of its brutal 113-year history.

📍Hales Bar Dam & Powerhouse, Guild, TN: The old powerhouse and especially its tunnels have a reputation for some seriously creepy activity.

📍Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, Weston, WV: Opened to patients in 1864 and operated until 1994, this massive former psychiatric hospital is now considered one of West Virginia’s most haunted places.

📍 Wyoming Territorial Prison, Laramie, WY: One of Wyoming’s oldest buildings, this site served first as a federal prison and later as a state prison.

📍Cape Henlopen, Lewes, DE: Tower 12, a World War II spotting tower, is said to be the most haunted part of the park.

📍Valley Forge, King of Prussia, PA: The Continental Army spent the winter here during the Revolutionary War, and stories of phantom soldiers are part of the site's haunted history.
